When rehabbing houses, we want to fix every detail that’s wrong in a house, especially those that are complete eyesores. If there’s a huge hole in the wall, we’ll patch it up and then paint it nicely to make it look like a new wall. While it’s your job to ensure that the house becomes a beauty, repairing arrogant buyers are no longer your concern, rehabber.

Ever encountered a prospective buyer who arrived in a top-down convertible and talked with so much air he’d shame a tornado? When he entered the house he complained at how mediocre the staircase looked. He then expressed concern because there isn’t a separate carport for two new sports cars he plans to buy next month.

Arrogant buyers do come to check out properties. Some rehabbers – feeling insulted with the airy buyer’s comments – will then raise the property’s price to unbelievable heights or fake accepting a call from someone who apparently has decided to buy the property just so the arrogant buyer won’t be able to purchase the house. After all, it’s the labor of love of the rehabber and the buyer doesn’t deserve the house. Right?

Emotions, however, should not take over logic in these cases. A rehabber must not care if their buyer holds the record for the world’s most boastful man. As long as he will sign the check, his attitude should not be a problem. Ignore all that air and treat him as any prospective buyer. Remember, be professional and you’ll sell the house.

Happy rehabbing!
